Damien and I have just finished our first week living in Brisbane. It is a very beautiful city with lots of trees, birds, parks, and things to do. We have met up with some of Damien's old friends and with one of mine. We have also made a few new friends. We are living with an Indian couple and they have made us some delicious chai!
We are living in Toowong right now in a shared accommodation situation. Toowong is a little west of downtown Brisbane. We are very close to buses and fairly close to the train. There are huge white cockatoos and colorful parrots in the backyard. And there are lots of geckos and lizards inside and outside the house. They are cute and harmless though. I am surprised by how hilly it is around here. We are definately getting our exercise by walking up and down these hills. We have a car but it is a pain in the but to drive and park so we are trying not to use it much.

We are right across the road from an old cemetery. It is very different to what I am used to. All the plots consist of a rectangular above ground structure like a bed. Most are stone but some are just wood and some are colorfully tiled. There are many Greek immigrants buried there. It doesn't look like there is any kind of caretaker or anything because many of the tombs are broken and cracked and overgrown. Some of them have big trees growing out of them! Damien isn't sure if this is a typical cemetery or not. There are a few newer ones but most of the death dates lie between the 30's - 80's.
Right now we are hoping to land full-time work soon and then are looking to find our own place. We are looking into a section of town near here called Milton. It is even closer to downtown and very close to shopping and trains.
Please see my photos for some more pics of the area.
