Goodbye Madrid

We pretty much said goodbye to Madrid really early this morning when we caught a train to the small stunning town of Segovia. We weren´t really sure which train to catch and almost made a mistake! We finally made it but were a little nervous because we hadn´t made any hotel reservations and the guide book said to make them in advance! It was a beautiful train ride with clear almost harsh blue skies and snow covered mountains. The landscape is very dry and harsh as well. We were tired and sick of carrying our heavy bags when we finally got the last room in a cute little hostal near the famous 2000 year old Roman aquaduct. We also visited the huge cathedral and the incredible alcazar, like a castle. The view from the top was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen in my life.

Yesterday we took a day trip to Toledo. It too was the definition of picturesque and we spent all day meandering down well worn narrow pathways. We are off to Barcelona VERY early in the morning. So far,we are not terribly impressed with Spanish food. It seems a bit greasy and every restaurant has the exact same menu. Granted it is cheap. And the tripe soup we had was memorable.

I wanted to be able to post pictures tonight but these old computers don´t have CD or USB ports so maybe next time. Anyway, things are great so far and Damien and I have yet to really get on each other´s nerves. Now, we are about to go back to the hostal for a nice dinner we bought of local red wine, olives, sausage, cheese, bread and pastries!!! Yummmmmm!
